Makeup or No Makeup?

12:55 Apr 28 2021
Times Read: 666

I am feeling lavender font for this entry. I am not sure why.
LOL.

It is 5 days if you count today until my butt will be in an office in downtown Birmingham. I am NOT looking forward to it. The commute is going to suck big time. Plus all the makeup and the flat ironing of hair . . . shivers . . . no thanks, I would rather stay in my little home cocoon where as long as I am showered by nightfall, I consider myself dressed for the day. I know, it is a far cry from the Wendy who wore makeup every day of her adult life, except weekends, until the pandemic hit. My makeup is probably all dried up by now. I guess I should try to ascertain if that is the case. I cannot decide which Wendy I prefer, pre-COVID Wendy or post-COVID Wendy?

I have a million and sixteen things to do before Monday and I cannot seem to get motivated to do any of them. I definitely believe COVID fatigue and depression have set in at my house. Mom and I are both feeling the same way. Even the dog just mopes around. I do think that one positive of starting to return to the office will be getting out of this house. I promised myself that today I would try to see all of this in as positive of a light as possible.

I had better get moving. I have contractors due at the house at 8. I am certain having contractors in and out of the house is going to make the transition back to the office less chaotic. What can I say . . . I have terrible timing sometimes.

You may be sitting your butt back in your easy chair at home.
From what I heard on the news this morning we will be running out of gas this summer.

You know it is so funny how when we are so used to something like make up but then when we do not put it on and it makes things so much easier. We actually look at our beautiful faces and say why would I want to put that shit on my face..lol When I do at at times I take it off in about a hour after I put it on...it just not feel right. Yes a bit of eye liner and mascara but the other stuff it is like my skin says WTF ARE YOU DOING GET IT OFF GET IT OFF. I take care of my skin with moisturizer and stuff but that is about it.

We always take advantage of things but then we find ourselves when cannot have it we ask ourselves did we really need that thing?

I admit it was hard giving up the sweat pants for office attire but it was good to be back in the office. Everyone in my office has been vaccinated. I do think covid fatigue is a real thing. It took me about the end of the 1st week of working to come out of the fog that had taken over my brain the past year.

Dentists . . . why do they make you come back so many times?

Well, apparently Dray's teeth are in sync with my teeth or vice versa. I, too, saw the dentist yesterday, and I, too, need a root canal. Unfortunately, I cannot medicate in the same way as Dray.

Real vampires love Vampire Rave.

I am stuck with good ole Advil or Tylenol. Thankfully, I do not have to wait long. Said root canal is tomorrow. Being that this is only my second ever cavity, I am a bit alarmed by the procedure. Drilling out the root of the tooth... no thank you. It sounds hideous. Good thing I will be numb! No more reading about medical procedures. No good can come from such a thing.

The jig is up . . .

. . . well it hasn't been so much of a jig; maybe more of a jazz hands and spirit fingers combination!

Real vampires love Vampire Rave.

Anyway, I found out sometime yesterday or the day before that we are returning to the office on May 3rd. They have us starting to come back two days a week and work from home the other three days. This makes very little sense to my logic-minded brain. If I am going to get COVID from being in the office, I can get it as easily in two days as five days. Someone from my team hypothesized that they are trying to wean us off of the comfort of working from home. I must say, I am going to miss wearing leggings as pants and my oversized sweatshirts. I think that Twizzler and Kopi are going to have the hardest adjustment. By the time we start back to the office, I will have been basically at home for one year and one month. It is crazy to think about that much time passing.

I also learned that despite working for this firm since March 30, 2020, I still do not have an office. LOL! I told my manager that while they are figuring out where to sit me that I could just continue to work from home. That way they could take their time finding me the perfect spot where the air is neither overly cold or breezy, but not hot or stagnant either (think Sheldon Cooper's spot). Although he found my discourse amusing (he is also a Sheldon Cooper fan), it must not have been persuasive enough to support my argument as he began listing all the places that they could put me temporarily. I'm just not a temporary kind of girl. I do not travel lightly and need space for all my daily accoutrements. Oh well, I guess I just need to purchase one of those rolling milk crates for myself until I get my permanent space. What's worse is that apparently I am going to be sharing my space with another lawyer, at least until we are back in the office full time. One of us will work Monday and Tuesday in the office and the rest of the week at home and the other will work Monday through Wednesday at home and Thursday and Friday in the office. Mind you, in risk management, we do not see clients and we really don't see the other firm attorneys unless they are in deep trouble. So this arrangement all seems a bit nonsensical and unnecessary. I think they should just allow us to stay at home until everything has been settled. Don't you? Oh well, I gave up the right to be in charge when I closed my practice and went to work for someone else.

I guess COVID is officially over in the State of Alabama. It's just that someone needs to tell the virus. Apparently, it hasn't gotten that memo yet.

There's a book I like that's about how communities come together in disasters (counter to our typical assumption that everything will be a Hobbsean nightmare) and how governments often mess shit up worse once they show up. The author agrees that doesn't always happen, it's not that simple, but it seems like a valid thought. And then here we are: the thing about the pandemic is that it has forced us to not support one another. Nobody's been able to give loving care for deeply sick family members, people have had to die alone, we've had to stay isolated from people we care for, we don't have those unintentional small conversations that let you really know where people are at, we're all stuck in a routine. Everything looks the same and nothing's the same. This interrupts every good impulse people have about how to support one another in bad times.

Very good point. I know it has not been great for my mental health. Some things about it have been good, but others not so good.

It is so funny how this all has made us realize what is more important for us in life...the small things we took advantage of like seeing our families whenever we wanted, going out for dinner with our loved ones, sending our children to school to learn outside the home. Parents that where made to work from home now go back to work but now realize what they missed when they went to work. We are used to being robots and so used to be around people and our mental health not a issue tells us why we are human....and how we need people and contact with others to help us keep sane. We are learning that being caged is not a good idea and sometimes that being caged and forced to stand sitll and look around us we have learned a great deal of what is important to us and what is not.

Thus is the nature . . .

. . . of Greyhounds.

People ask me all the time when they see me walking Twizzler, "what kind of dog is he?" It is like they know, but they are wanting reassurance that they are right. I reply "he is a Greyhound." "Wow," some mutter, "is he fast?" "You're darn tootin he's fast," I usually reply, or something equally as ridiculous. Generally, the conversation ends there and I continue on my journey. Occasionally, I feel like I am on cross-examination answering questions about Greyhounds, questions I definitely am not qualified to answer. You see, ask me a question about an Ocicat and that, that I can answer. I bred them for 10 years. Greyhounds are a completely different ballgame. I have compared them to aliens.

No you silly . . . Not like that . . .

Real vampires love Vampire Rave.

Yessssss, like that. I mean, there is evidence that Greyhounds go back thousands of years. So, what do we know about these strange, otherworldly beasts. Greyhounds are very emotional, sensitive critters (like some on this website, right?). Those that are ex-racers and adopted into rescue homes like Twizzy are used to a very regimented schedule. Twizzy goes to the bathroom at the exact same times (within 5 minutes) each day; I can tell you what time it is if he is asking out. Car rides, toys, televisions, children, stairs, kitchens, street noises, and almost everything else considered normal for dogs were all foreign to Twizzy (I will have to tell the story of how we got him in the car to go home from the track). Twizzy chatters and snaps at the air when he is expressing glee. When he is scared or he is showing love, he will just stop in midstep and lean on you with all 80 pounds of sinewy muscle, almost throwing you to the floor. Twizzy also rolls back his upper lip and looks like he is snarling when he is expressing pleasure or when he is relaxed. I have heard others refer to this as "grinning." I can assure you that it is quite terrifying the first time you see it. Twizzy will "roo" when he hears a siren or meets another Grey. This is his song. He will sometimes roo to music too if he likes it. Greyhounds are supposed to also "roach" which refers to the hounds scrubbing around on their backs with their legs in the air (think dying cockroach and you have it), but Twizzy doesn't do that. He thinks he is too long and can't get his balance. Greys think they are huge and way too long to navigate small spots. Twizzy once refused to come into my bedroom because a .5 inch piece of strapping that was around several reems of paper was dangling loose in his path. He absolutely refuses to step over anything and will either go around what is in his way completely or not go at all. Grey's, despite living most of their pre-adopted lives in a cage/kennel, like the softest spots in the house. You can often find Twizzy on the sofa catching some zzzz's or on his double-thick bed on the living room rugs. Despite being described as the athletes of the dog world, Greys are sprinters; they are not in the game for the long run. Twizzy is happy if he can run REALLY fast for 5 minutes, 3 times during the day. Grey's are also prissy about the weather. They do NOT like rain. They do NOT like sun. They do NOT like heat. They do NOT like cold. They like it to be about 75 degrees with a light breeze and slightly overcast. Twizzy does NOT like to be dirty, yet he does NOT like a bath.

Although this sounds like they are hard to live with or please, they really are the most wonderful dogs. Twizzy has taught us patience, kindness, gracefulness, patience (oh, did I say that already), and gratefulness. He reminds me of a child, seeing everything fir the first time. Learning how to play, learning how to interact with the cat, and learning how to live like a pet. I feel like he is living his best life. We are lucky to have him, and he, lucky to have us. But yes, I still think he is an alien! And yes, I am wordy. Enjoy some pictures below if you have made it this far:

I just watched Twizzler dig his bed for 15 minutes to be just perfect. He then circled around for another 5 minutes only to lay down and look like he is super uncomfortable. He just let out a big sigh like he’s given up. Bless his heart ❤️

I was trying to comment on my other profile, but the lag was so horrible earlier, I gave up LOL!

Anyhoo, you got one of those too huh? Do the fluff to puff the bed, and the circle thing, its kinda comical to watch because mine gruffs at her bed like she's annoyed. Then yea, the plop in the bed and sighs like "this still feels off" kinda sigh lol. I always wonder what she's thinking when all that energy is spent on just the bed fluffing LOL! So cute tho:p
